Achievements

  • For characterization of weather conditions, daily weather data for 30 years (1957-1997) were analysed and normal values were computed.

  • In respect of crop-weather relations and modelling large database for 7 years with rice crop was generated both on meteorological factors. Phenology, dry matter and its partitioning, leaf area index, specific leaf area, soil moisture were monitored at 10-day intervals with three sowing dates and five fertilizer treatments. CERES Rice model was validated and modified for simulation of rice crop. Phenology, biomass and grain weight could be successfully simulated. Further verification is in progress.

  • Dry matter production and its partitioning in paddy was found to be dependent on soil moisture, availability of PAR, and nutrient status in the soil. Optimum sowing date for transplanting paddy in the region was found to be around 25th June.
