Achievements

  • A good data base on agroclimatic parameters of the Chhattisgarh region has been developed, analysed and an agroclimatic atlas for the region has been prepared.

  • Long term database on evapotranspiration patterns under rice-wheat system have been compiled and analysed. Water requirement of wheat and early, medium and late maturing rice varieties have been worked out.

  • Detailed field water balance studies of soybean-chickpea production system have been carried out. The adverse effects of surplus water availability leading to water logging conditions in soybean crop have been quantified. The need to provide drainage channels in the initial stages of soybean growth for better productivity from the crop has been brought out and water management strategies for sustainable productivity from the cropping system has been suggested.

  • Micro-climatic studies in rice genotypes have been  carried out and the influence of leaf colour and growth pattern on moisture and thermal regimes during different phenophases has been quantified.

  • Regional impact of ENSO on the onset and distribution of southwest monsoon rains in Chhattisgarh region were analysed and rainfall-rice yield relationships were worked out for different districts in the region.

  • Validation of crop simulation model for rice (Oriyza) has been carried.
