Achievements

  • Frequency distribution of rainfall showed that in 72% of years annual rainfall ranged between 2500-4000mm  and the chances of getting annual rainfall below 2500mm  are only 8 per cent.

  • Analysis of long term weather data for Dapoli revealed a characteristic cyclic pattern of  4-5 years with above-normal rainfall followed by below-normal rainfall.

  • Studies on impact of weather on rice productivity revealed low sunshine hours and breaks in monsoon as major constraints. Increase in yield could be obtained by delaying the sowing by 3 weeks after onset of monsoon.

  • Incidence of pod borer pest in black gram was found to be positively correlated with canopy temperature and sunshine hours.
