Achievements

  • Data base had been prepared with meteorological data for four stations, Daily/weekly/monthly rainfall data for revenue blocks in 13 districts are analysed for characterization.

  • Districts have been categorized into zones of  (a) high rainfall low variability  (b) high rainfall with high variability and  (c) low rainfall with high variability.

  • Years with drought only, flood only, drought + flood, Cyclone + flood, clamity free were identified for the period 1965-1997.

  • Duration of rainfall deficit at different growth stages in pady crop (expressed as number of weeks) was worked out to assess the growth stages vulnerable to drought.

  • District-wise variability in rice yield was correlated with rainfall and alternate cropping strategies have been suggested.

  • Crop weather relationships in groundnut were studied through field experiments at Bhubaneswar in terms of degree days needed for initiation of the different developmental stages.

  • Studies on Bacterial leaf blight and stemborer in kharif rice were initiated in 1997 and regressed with minimum temperature, sunshine hours and rainfall/humidity. The results need further substantiation.
