• Agromet Databank has been created at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad with the financial assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and support of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture.
• Objectives of the project are to collect, compile and computerize the weather and crop data generated at the various ICAR and State Agricultural Universities in India and to make available the basic and derived agromet parameters and crop information to the users through the Agromet Databank Website, ARIS network of the ICAR and E-mail.
• The database contains Eight Basic weather parameters viz. Maximum and Minimum temperature, Rainfall, Wind speed, Relative humidity (morning and evening), Sunshine hours & Evaporation and Seven Derived weather parameters viz. Potential evapotranspiration, Actual evapotranspiration, Estimated soil moisture, Soil moisture index, Water deficit, Water surplus, Index of moisture adequacy on daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal basis for various locations in India.

About Us

• The project "Creation of Databank Facility in Agrometeorology" has been started with initial funding by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.  It is to be taken over by the ICAR for future continuity of agromet database compilation and making it available to researchers. The Project is first of its kind in India and is poised to become the "National Databank on Agrometeorology ".
• Weather and crop data collected across various centres in India, are scrutinized for missing periods, quality checked and maintained in a Relational Database. The basic and derived agromet parameters and crop data are retrived through software developed in-house.
• The budget of the project is Rs.42.65 lakhs for four and half years (April 1998 to  March 2003) and has one Senior Scientist (Agrometeorology), one Technical Officer, two Research Associates and two Research Fellows as staff.
